This intensive small group course is designed to help B1/C1 level Italian students improve their dialectics, conversation and understanding through interactive and engaging lessons. The lessons each have a specific topic (which you will find described in detail here) and alternate between grammar masterclasses and creative communication workshops, providing a complete and practical learning experience: one week will be dedicated to communication and the following to grammar , alternating like this until the end of the Course. These original lessons provide an engaging and practical learning experience, helping students improve their ability to communicate in Italian naturally and effectively. **Italian Course “PARLA MEGLIO” July/September 2024**
**Course Duration**: July 16th - October 1st, 2024
**Classes are conducted personally by Donatella Live via Zoom (NO BORING PRE RECORDED VIDEOS!)
**Class Schedule**: Every Tuesday at 6:30 PM ET
**Number of Lessons**: 12 group lessons (60 minutes each) + 3 private lessons for each student (45 minutes each) + 3 special classes dedicated to Italian literature (once a month, on Saturdays, at 12pm ET) for a total of 18 classes

Course Program
1. Communication Workshops (6 classes)
**1. Caffe' filosofico**
**Topic**: Discussion of philosophical and moral themes.
**Details**: Students engage in discussions on philosophical themes like free will, ethics, and the nature of happiness. Activities include debates, personal reflections, and analysis of quotes from famous philosophers.
**2. Il Club del podcast**
**Topic**: Listening to and analyzing Italian podcasts.
**Details**: Students listen to episodes of Italian podcasts on various topics (history, culture, science, current events) and discuss the content in class. Activities include summaries, small group discussions, and presentations on the themes covered in the podcasts. This lesson enhances listening and comprehension skills.
**3. Il Workshop del racconto**
**Topic**: Creation and narration of stories.
**Details**: Students create and tell original stories, focusing on elements such as plot, characters, and setting. Activities include brainstorming exercises, collaborative writing, and presenting stories to the group. This workshop enhances creativity, storytelling ability, and speech cohesion.
**4. La giornata delle professioni**
**Topic**: Simulation of professional interactions.
**Details**: Students simulate professional situations like business meetings, interviews, and presentations. Each student assumes a specific role (e.g., manager, client, collaborator) and participates in role-playing exercises reflecting real professional contexts. This lesson helps develop professional vocabulary and formal communication skills.
**5. Improvvisazione teatrale**
**Topic**: Theatrical improvisation to improve fluency.
**Details**: Students participate in theatrical improvisation exercises, creating dialogues and scenes on the spot based on prompts given by the teacher. Activities include improvisation games, skits, and group exercises that encourage spontaneity and creativity in speaking.
**6. Viaggio virtuale**
**Topic**: Exploration and description of Italian places.
**Details**: Students virtually explore Italian cities and regions through virtual tours and interactive maps. After the exploration, they describe and discuss their experiences, highlighting cultural, historical, and touristic aspects of the visited places. Activities include presentations, debates, and creating travel itineraries.
2. Grammar Masterclasses (6 classes)
**1. Forma passiva**
**Topic**: Formation and use of the passive voice.
**Details**: This Masterclass explains how to transform an active sentence into a passive one, It also covers the use of the passive in compound tenses and idioms
**2. Periodo ipotetico**
**Topic**: Construction and use in various degrees of possibility and reality.
**Details**: This Masterclass covers the three types: reality, possibility, and unreality.
**3. Presente progressivo**
**Topic**: Use of the present continuous and its applications.
**Details**: This Masterclass explores the use of the present continuous to express actions currently in progress and it delves into its use various contexts.
**4. Verbi pronominali**
**Topic**: Advanced use of pronominal verbs in Italian.
**Details**: This Masterclass delves into the use of verbs that require clitic pronouns, like "andarsene," "rimetterci," and "arrivarci."
**5. Discorso indiretto**
**Topic**: Transformation of direct speech into indirect speech.
**Details**: This Masterclass covers the rules for reporting someone's words indirectly, with particular attention to changes in verb tenses, pronouns, and adverbs.
**6. Concordanza dei tempi**
**Topic**: Rules of tense concordance in subordinate clauses.
**Details**: This Masterclass explains how to coordinate verb tenses between the main and subordinate clauses. It also covers concordance in hypothetical sentences and indirect speech.
